Why do I need company letter head paper?
Most company letterheads feature a logo, website address and contact details, but did you know certain information must be included under the Companies Act 2006? Here’s what you need to know…
Sole Traders: All sole trader businesses must include their business name and trading address. If you choose to trade under a business name, you must also include your own full name.
Limited Companies: Registered limited companies must include their full registered company name, registration number, place of registration (e.g. ‘England’), registered address and, if different, its trading address. Although there’s no requirement to include a list of directors, if you choose to name directors, all directors must be named.
Partnerships: Alongside the name and trading address of the business, partnerships must list the names of all partners. If there are so many partners that including them all on a letterhead would be impractical, then its acceptable to direct people to where a list may be found, such as a website URL.
Other requirements: Certain businesses must state that they are investment companies. Companies exempt from using the word ‘limited’ in their name must make it clear that they are limited companies. For companies with share capital, it’s not a requirement to state the share capital, but if you choose to do so, the paid-up share capital (rather than the authorised capital) must be included. Charitable companies whose name excludes the words ‘charity’ or ‘charitable’ must state clearly that they have charitable status. Finally, certain industries are required to include specific additional information. For instance, if you’re a member of the Financial Conduct Authority, you may need include their logo on your stationery.
